• When I was a kid, we'd burn pallets all the time and never worry about the nails…in the salt water and air they disappear in no time – we would just bury them deep the next morning.  The pallets will, however, burn even faster!  The crap wood those are made of just ignites immediately….I betcha they go quicker than you think!R

  • Guys,As this idea for the bonfire gets legs, we need to be sure we have plenty of firewood…I am hoping we can find some at the bombing range to bring back, but I encourage everyone to try and bring some if there is room…we will need 1/2 cord.  If you have room to throw a few logs on the roof, please do so!R, “Estuarial Fire God”

  • Thanks Rick!

  • I can bring my trailer down and that way we can get wood/stone/dead ponies pretty much anywhere we need to on the beach.  I also have a bunch of old cinderblock pieces that I used to use for a firering in my backyard, so those might work as well.

The trailer will be helpful for getting seaweed and stone….the cinder blocks are not worth the…[Read more]

  • Alright…..If Ben brings the info about where to get the stone, then all we need do is secure a bunch of seaweed…..I am guessing we'll have to look around for that, but we might be able to get it right from the beach.  Maybe those who arrive early can recon a bit for that then when I get there on Wednesday we can line everything else up.  If w…[Read more]

  • Rick, I think everyone is planning on being there for the clambake/bonfire.  Not sure what to do about the rocks.  How many are we talking and how big?

Rocks!  JEEZUS,  I  forgot the rocks!  You need rocks for a clambake – lots of 'em…..anybody know if there are rocks on the OBX?  I”M SERIOUS!  We're screwed without them.  How many people w…

  • Hey Rick and fellow bruisers.  There is  a great seafood shop called Risky Business http://www.riskybseafood.com/  we have been going there for years.  I have sent them an email to get there schedule, schedules change there due to us being late in the season, and also to find out about palm frond availability.

Nice find! I've heard of them bef…

  • All,Been traveling, so I am not up to speed……The clambake idea has to involve a few ingredients that we will have to get locally…Basically all we need is seafood that is “steamable” (most ALL of it is!), and I expected to buy that locally, palm fronds or seaweed…this is the tricky part and the seafood dealers might be helpful…Old Bay and…[Read more]

  • The Bombing range info came from me, via a local who wheels there all the time to fish Alligator Alley.  She said is is filled with trails of all descriptions, but until we can get there, I have no first hand info.  My plan was to get out there Monday or Tuesday with another FJ or two to scope it out for a trip back, en masse, later in the w…[Read more]

  • Hardy-har-har!(:Actually, I would like onboard air… But, I will prolly go with a setup like Ben's, because it will eventually power my ARB airlockers.Nice setup though.-V

You can use the Powertank for your lockers, for air tools, for re-setting a bead….it is one of the best mods I have made and would recommend it to anyone!R

  • That sounds like a good plan, but I was just watching out for those people that want to do a clam bake.  The cost for that might be a little salty.  If they're okay with it (I believe Rick and Todd said they wanted to do it) then we're good to go.

Oh yeah, I totally agree with you! Everybody who wants to participate in the ClamBake should d…

  • I had a long talk with Bud when I bought my skids and we talked about Lin-X and other bed coatings.  He recommends against it.  He has had several reports of it creating so much friction on rocks that the plates couldn't do their job of sliding off of an obstacle…..I used spray cans and plan to do it every couple of months….One tip – paint t…[Read more]

  • Guys, I have not read this whole thread, but one thing we SHOULD do,especially since we can have a fire on the beach is do a clam bake.  Get clams mussels, oysters, shrimp lobster, corn, potatos, and steam/roast them on a bed of wet seaweed over a pile on embers, covered in sand.  Just eat on the beach, and bury the debris.  We did this every Fr…[Read more]
